Announcements
All-American teammates, state champions in three different sports and the all-time leading basketball scorers in school history highlight the 14-member class of the Danville Area School District’s Athletics Hall of Fame.
The second class is made up of 13 Danville graduates and a record-setting boys track & field coach whose resumé is as good as any coach in Danville history.
The class will be formally inducted this fall, joining the inaugural class of 15 members enshrined in 2025. The class was selected by the Hall of Fame committee following public nominations.
The 2026 class includes: Wendy Davis McCullough, class of 1993; Sean Duffy, class of 1991; Fred Geringer, class of 1962; Dwayne Heeter, class of 1982; Marcie Hickey, class of 1995; Megan Hunsinger, class of 1994; Daryn James, class of 1989; Ryann Kishbaugh McConnell, class of 2006; Ben McConnell, class of 2005; Rob Meloy, class of 1984; Walter ‘Buck’ Mensch, class of 1922; Kevin Moodie, class of 1982; Amber Renz, Class of 2016; Barry Seidel, long-time track & field coach
Hickey and Hunsinger were softball teammates at Danville before going on to All-American careers together at Bloomsburg University. Dwayne Heeter and Kevin Moodie were teammates on the 1982 District 4 champion boys basketball team that made three consecutive appearances in the state tournament. Moodie, the all-time leading scorer in Danville boys basketball history, will be honored along with Renz, the girls’ all-time leading scorer, and Davis McCullough, the first girl to reach 1,000 points for the Ironmen.
Husband and wife tandem Ryann Kishbaugh McConnell and Ben McConnell each won state titles at Danville, Ryann in swimming and Ben in track & field. Sean Duffy, Danville’s only state golf champion, will join his sister Michele Duffy McCormick — a member of the inaugural class —in the hall of fame. Ben McConnell will also join his sister, Kelly, in the hall of fame.
Barry Seidel, the only non-graduate in the class, coached Danville’s boys track & field team for 35 years, winning the 2006 state title, coaching four individual state champions and the program’s only relay gold.
The class will be publicly introduced during the Danville-Mount Carmel football game on Friday, Sept. 25. A formal induction ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, at The Danville Area Performing Arts Center in the high school.
The public is invited to the induction ceremony. More information will be available as the event approaches later this summer.
