PVAAS
Introduction
The Pennsylvania Value-Added Assessment System (PVAAS) is a statistical analysis tool provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Education to school districts to help educators understand how students are growing academically from one year to the next. PVAAS uses data from the PSSA and Keystone state assessments and measures student growth from year to year on those state tests and makes statistical projections for future assessments. PVAAS data was just released across the state of PA on October 31, 2024.
PVAAS data is extremely important because it tells us as a district if our educational programming and instructional decisions are working for our students. Our educators can also use PVAAS data to make informed instructional decisions that can meet the unique needs of all of our students.
PVAAS data results in a green color and the title “meets” if we as a system are growing students a year for each year that they are in school. If we grow students less than a year then it is reported as red with the title “below” or “well below” and if we grow students more than a year then it is reported as blue with the title of “above” or “well above.” We are striving to be at “meets” or higher, and we are definitely looking to grow any students who have fallen behind above a year’s growth so that we can close any learning gaps.
